General Club News

Important Message from the Executive Committee

Dear Members,

It has come to the attention of the Executive Committee that Coaching Services are being offered and provided at BBRC in the context of a commercial arrangement (that is to say these services are being paid for) which are not subject to an authorized arrangement or agreement with BBRC. This is a breach of the constitution of the club and is consequently a breach of the rules of the club.

Any member or persons found to engaed in this activity, either providing or purchasing these services, is therefore in breach of the membership rules of the club and may be subject to action. If following the appropriate process of hearing, any member is found to be guilty of the actions as laid out above, the club may impose remedies including but not limited to, expulsion from the club.

The Club currently has agreements with GamePlan for tennis and Double Dot Squash for Squash coaching. No other agreements exist. Any person or entity providing or offering these services is not authorized by the club to do so.

We thank you kindly for your co-operation.

David Norris (President)

No Smoking Policy

Please be aware that our club is entirely smoke free.  Recently there have been reports of ciggy butts on the top decks and this is breaching our Smoke-Free Policy.  If smoking is your thing, please do this outside of the facility and away from the courts.  We thank you for your understanding.

Membership Renewals

A friendly reminder if you have not paid your membership invoice you need to do that as soon as possible.

All Tennis Memberships were due on 1/9/19 and there are still many that have not been paid, unfortunately this will affect your ability to book online and access the club with your card.  Please call the Club Manager or email to organise your payment.

To all those that have paid already – A big THANK YOU  !

Ball Machine

Please note that the Ball machine is back at the club and ready for action. Members can hire the ball machine for $15.00 per hour.

A kind reminder to members that courts can be booked online as well as searching for member’s contact details. If you struggle with your log in details please contact me for support.

Squash A2 Tournament

Shout out to all members to support the A2 Squash Tournament which is fast approaching, whether it be on court, or at the bar over the weekend.

Tennis folk you are welcome to put your racquet down and try a smaller one with a smaller ball too!

Please consider entering ‘Old, broken or new’ social squash competition and be part of the Club’s Tournament which starts next week (26-29 September).   You get to play two games for 30mins, every point counts, total points will win a prize.  This gets you to play squash in a vibrant competition without the fear of win/loss pressure and within limited game time.  We have about 15 people coming over from New Caledonia who bring lots of positive energy and are known to spend a lot across the bar.  Good chance to practice your French!

Please enter by end of day Sunday at [email protected].

Please state when you can play, noting we play Thurs and Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon.

From the Tennis Court

A huge thank you to all of the committee and volunteer members (too many to mention individually) who came to help over the weekend of Love Tennis Nationwide Programme.  Also to our Coaches, Wes, Akshay & Jarrod for donating your time to make the event a huge success.

Whether you blew up balloons, handed out prizes, assisted on court with activites, cooked a snarler or 2,  or took registrations, we are extremely grateful for the help.

We had a huge turnout with over 120 people registering attendance & an increase to our membership of over 30 people and still more inquiring every day.  All entries for the free tickets to ASB Tennis in January 2020 have been submitted to Tennis Northern, so good luck and lets hope someone from our clubs registrations wins!!!

We welcome all the new members and hope that your experience at our club is an extremely positive one.

Jeanette Skewes yet again showed her genorosity by supporting us with a loan gazebo and lots of special gifts for the kids over the weekend.  We are very grateful for the sponsorship of Barfoot & Thompson.

Tennis Club Captain

We would like to thank Angela Hutchinson for her services to the club and the Executive Committee to date.  Unfortunately Angela has had to stand down due to other commitments and we are extremely thankful for all of her efforts do date, they really have been instrumental to several club functions and activities in recent months.

Exciting news!

Angela Verry has kindly accepted to take on the role and join the Executive in making our club a wonderful place to be, with family, friends and fellow players.  Angela brings to the table extensive knowledge on the history of our club and the runnings of tennis.

Thanks to both Angelas – we really love what you have done and plan to do for our club.

Lost Racquet  🙁

Has anyone seen this racquet (Tecnifibre Carbon – in the picture below) as it was misplaced after the Love Tennis Weekend in the bar area on Sunday afternoon.  A very similar racquet has been left in the reception area, of which we only presume someone has picked up the wrong racquet by mistake.  If you know anything, or have seen it please contact the Club Manager as soon as you can so that it can be returned to the very grateful owner.

From the Coach – Double Dot Squash

Last week  Double Dot Squash was in the NX school every day delivering their students an in-school time squash programme. I had a great response from this from the kids and teachers and was also great to see kids coming to play more squash in their lunch times. The programme was delivered to about 50% of the school (about 650 kids).
Following the in-school programme last week, this week Double Dot Squash held two have-a-go sessions on Monday and Wednesday after school for the kids. We had an incredible turn out for these with 40 kids on Monday and 50 kids on Wednesday. About 10 did both sessions so 80 different kids across the two sessions. We also had a few of their parents asking me about senior squash at the club.
This was a great opportunity to show our club to the wider community, and from this we have built a relationship that will be ongoing.
