General Club News

From the President

Happy New Year to all, I hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday season and that you are all rearing to go for an eventful 2019 at BBRC. We have a lot planned both on and off the court and we appreciate all members support as we strive to be the best club on the North Shore.  Some things to watch out for in the first few months, some changes to our staff which I will elaborate on below, our forthcoming AGM which we are hoping to hold within the next 6 weeks at least, (so start thinking about those nominations) and also the many projects that are either being completed or the ones that are in planning stages awaiting successful grants to complete.

As I mentioned in the last newsletter, we are saying goodbye to Mariska who has been our frontline lady for over 2 years now.  We are sad to see her go, and I know many of you have already popped in to say goodbye but for those who haven’t yet and would like to, her last day will be Tuesday 29th January. Mariska, a personal thank you from me, you have made being President so much easier with you by my side, so a huge thank you and best wishes to you and your family from the bottom of my heart xx

We also will be saying goodbye to Taine Zimmerman, from our bar staff.  Taine, you have been an absolute delight and a breath of fresh air behind the bar, always with a smile and welcome that makes my day.  I wish you well in your full-time studies and know that you will be successful in whatever you choose to do.

With Mariska’s departure it was time to reassess some areas around the club, so with that, I have employed Brigid Curran as the new Club Manager and Karen Grantham as our new Bar Manager. Brigid comes to BBRC with extensive experience working in Not for Profit Organisations and many Community Projects.  She comes with very high recommendations, and successes in areas of funding, marketing and operations.  I would like to welcome Brigid and hope everyone will support us whilst the transition is in process.  Watch this space as Brigid brings her ideas & strengths to the table to assist us in growing our club.

As both positions have been revamped, all bar matters are now to be addressed directly to Karen as she will be doing all the work relating to rosters, bar buddies, stock, events etc.  If you want to contact Karen the best way is to email her: [email protected] I’m sure Karen will enjoy the opportunity to take our bar to new heights and I hope you will all support her whilst this transition takes place.

Over the holiday period, the work was carried out in the upper lounge area, with the installation of the new ceiling, paintworks in and around the bar, and new recessed LED lighting.  Thank you to Nick Wiles and Ross Cochrane for doing this work through this time to avoid disruption to our club throughout the playing season.  Sorry guys that your holidays were cut short to help us out, I’m sure the result speaks for itself when I say Great Job Guys!!!!  By next Wednesday we are hoping to have all the areas of notice boards etc reinstated, so please be patient with us with some minor inconveniences whilst the work is totally completed.

In regard to this work being done, we could not have made this happen without the kind contributions from the following people:

Grants – Auckland Council Hibiscus and Bays Local Board & NZ Community Trust

Sponsors – Barfoot & Thompson

$1000 Donations – Men’s Chelsea Cup Team, Peter Weir, Midweek Ladies, Thuten Kesang (Thursday Night Social Tennis)

Moving forward in 2019, I wish all our members a very successful year on the courts, our coaches continued growth in their programme development, all our staff a fun and enjoyable year and lastly but certainly not the least to all our volunteers & committee members a huge success in our plans to make BBRC the best it can possibly be😊

From the Club Manager

I would like to thank Mariska for assisting and training me in her last couple of weeks. The support from the Committee and the friendly faces I have met so far. Please forgive me if I do not remember your names.  Congratulations to Karen on her revamped role.  Karen, Mariska, the Committee and I would like to thank Taine Zimmerman for his hard work in the bar over the past year and wish him well in his studies.

That being said we are now looking for bar staff who are able to work on a casual basis. If you know anyone who would be a great addition to the team get them to email Karen, [email protected]  with their CV.

Once again thank you for supporting me through this transition.

Brigid.
