General Club News

From the President.

With the new year well behind us now, I hope everyone has settled back into their respective racquet codes and are performing well on the court when representing BBRC.  We have some exciting things happening on and off the court so please take the time to read all club notices on the noticeboards, bar blackboard, Facebook advertising, as well as our new BBRC Hub page.

Tennis Coaches

Many members will have been aware that in July this year we were expecting the arrival of Ron Dutton as our Head Tennis Coach.  Unfortunately, due to recent health & family circumstances, Ron has informed us he is unable to move back to NZ and is very sorry for any disruption this may cause us.  We are extremely fortunate to have had the expertise of Wes Whitehouse and Akshay Ashok fulfil a temporary contract with us between Kiwi Tennis’ departure and the arrival of Ron.

I am extremely happy to announce that Wes & Akshay have committed to staying with us long term and negotiations of their new contract from Term 2 will commence next week.  They have some amazing coaching programmes they are looking to implement at our club, as well as tournaments for children, corporate events and possibly even some trips overseas to play tennis.  I am very excited to see where they can assist us in growing our membership and improving our coaching programmes for all abilities. We look forward to a long and happy relationship and I hope that all members get behind them and support the coaching team.  Thank you Wes & Akshay, welcome to our BBRC family!

Court 6 Update:

I would like to thank all members that have shown tolerance and patience to our recent closure of court 6.  I understand that it has caused disruption to many of you, especially our keen Thursday night players. The decision was made due to considerable wear and tear of the baseline, of which has caused a major Health & Saftey issue, resulting in a member hurting themselves.  This left us no option than to close the court until we could ascertain quotes and dates for either repair or replacement.

I am happy to say, yesterday we accepted a quote for the repair of the baseline to be carried out, which your maintenance portion of membership has covered this expense, thank you all. The earliest date (weather permitting) is in Mid March.  I apologise that it is not able to be done immediately, but being peak season the company involved is booked well into July and they are squeezing us in at short notice.  Please be aware that this surface is a temporary fix, it will be different in colour and turf height, so not ideal for competitive play, but it will be fine for coaching and social play only.  We will be looking at obtaining grants for replacement of all courts 6-8 in the near future, we are currently in the process of researching our playing surface options.

Tennis Pavilion Roof:

We are very happy to have received a grant from Four Winds Foundation to replace our very rusty and leaking old roof.  Some before and after photos for you all to see how much these community grants are helping us to improve our club facilities.  Thank you Mariska for all the effort you have been putting into applying for these grants, of which you have been highly successful to date.    There are many more grants planned in the future as we work through the priority list we will keep you informed of what is coming up.

On the 14th March 2018, 7pm, our next AGM will be held at the club.  PLEASE reserve this evening in your diaries now.  Nomination forms will be available from today in the club reception area.  Any nomination forms can be filled out from today up until 5 pm Friday 9th March and slipped under Mariska’s office door if she is not present at the time. The list of nominations will be advertised on the club noticeboard in the lounge area, on the 12th of March.  By the 7th of March Mariska will be posting all reports and Agenda items on the club website.  Please keep an eye out for these.

Looking forward to a highly successful year on and off the court in 2018.

Kindest regards

Jen Barlass

Tennis Coaching).  Click the “follow” button, enter in your email address, and confirm.   From then on, every time news is published in that news category you will receive an email alert and a link to click on to read that news post.

It is also very easy to use on mobile phones and devices, and there is even a new “button” you can add to your Android or Apple device, making it a one-click process to access the Hub directly on your phone or tablet.  Click the button below for quick instructions on how to add this.
